Choosing a hair dryer usually starts in the wrong place. People compare watts, then price, then color, and end up with a dryer that is strong on paper and tiring in the hand. The better order is the reverse: start with your hair and your arm, then look at the motor, and only then at the number on the box.

  • 11hair dryers in the range
  • $19.37lowest price
  • $72.19highest price

This guide walks through that order with the whole CONFU range on the table: eleven hair dryers, priced from $19.37 to $72.19. If you already know you want curls dried with a diffuser, the diffuser guide goes deeper on that. If you are deciding whether a high-speed dryer is worth the money, read the high-speed explainer.

Start with your hair, not the wattage

Three things about your hair decide most of the choice: how much of it there is, how it curls, and how often you dry it.

How much. Length and density set the amount of water the dryer has to move. Short or fine hair is dry in a few minutes with almost any dryer, so weight and noise matter more than power. Long, thick hair holds water for a long time, and the session can run past ten minutes. For that you want strong airflow and a body you can hold up that long.

A woman drying curls with the CONFU 1875W ionic dryer and its diffuser
Curls dry best under a diffuser at low airflow. The 1875W Ionic pairs a deep diffuser with a speed slider.

How it curls. Straight and wavy hair is dried with a concentrator, the flat nozzle that aims the air down the hair shaft. Curly and coily hair is dried with a diffuser, the wide bowl that slows the air so the curl is not blown apart. Not every dryer comes with both, and diffusers differ a lot in depth.

How often. A dryer used twice a week can be heavy and loud. A dryer used every morning should be light and quiet, because you will feel both of those things two hundred times a year.

Keep those three answers in mind. The rest of this guide is about matching them to hardware.

What do the watts on a hair dryer mean?

Watts measure how much electricity the dryer draws at full heat, not how fast it dries. CONFU dryers run from 1,400 to 1,875 watts, and the top figure, 1,875 watts, is simply what a 15-amp household circuit carries at 125 volts.

A higher wattage tells you the dryer can make more heat. It does not tell you how much air it moves, and moving air is what carries the water away. One of our buyers put it plainly after trying an 1875-watt model on fine, curly hair:

It doesn’t really blowdry your hair any faster than a lower wattage hair dryer.

Christina B., 3 out of 5, July 8, 2026, about CONFU Pro Salon Ionic Hair Dryer

The point stands: watts alone do not predict drying time. Two dryers with the same wattage can feel completely different, because one spends its power on heat and the other pairs moderate heat with a fast, narrow stream. Our high-speed models draw 1,400 to 1,600 watts, less than the salon dryers, and buyers describe them as the faster ones.

Use watts as a ceiling, not a score. If you like hot air or have dense hair, 1,875 watts gives you headroom. If you dry fine hair every day, you will rarely use the top setting, and the extra watts buy you nothing.

Three kinds of motor, three kinds of dryer

The motor is the real dividing line in the range. It decides the weight, the shape, the sound and a good part of the price.

MotorModelsWeightPrice from
High-speed motor, 110,000 rpmK13, F11 and F40.81 to 0.95 lb$39.99

DC or compact motorIonic 1600, Foldable 1875 and Foldable Diffuser1.08 to 1.81 lb$19.37

AC motors: the salon standard

An AC motor is the heavy, durable kind that salons have used for decades. It runs straight off the wall current, turns a wide fan and tolerates long sessions. The price is weight: our AC models are listed between 1.5 and 2.49 lb. Pro Salon, AC Motor 1875, Ionic 1875 and Salon Ionic are the 1875-watt AC dryers in the range.

Choose AC if your hair is long and thick, if you blow-dry with a round brush, or if you like strong heat. A stylist who bought our AC Motor model for work wrote the kind of review that sums up the trade-off:

It is heavy , but so powerful!

caitlin jimenez, 5 out of 5, July 27, 2020, about CONFU 1875W AC Motor Salon Hair Dryer

High-speed motors: small, fast, light

A high-speed dryer replaces the wide fan with a small impeller that spins at up to 110,000 rpm. The motor fits inside the handle, so the head can be short and the whole dryer weighs under a pound without its cord. The air leaves in a tight, fast stream: 26 meters a second on the K13 and the F11.

Because the air does more of the work, the heat can stay lower. That is the design, and it is why some buyers love these dryers and a few find them not hot enough. K13, F11 and F4 are the three high-speed models. They cost more than the others: from $39.99.

A high-speed dryer next to its attachments: the head is a short tube, because the motor sits in the handle.

DC and compact motors: the everyday middle

Between the two sit the compact dryers with lighter DC-type motors. The 1600W Ionic, our best-known model, turns at up to 21,000 rpm and adds a dial for stepless speed. These dryers are lighter than the AC models and far cheaper than the high-speed ones. They suit short to medium hair and daily use, and two of them fold for travel.

Here is the whole range side by side. Heat settings and speeds are counted the way the controls work: a dial or slider is listed as stepless.

A note on the weight column. Some weights are for the dryer alone, without the cord, and the table marks them. The rest are listed item weights. The two are not directly comparable, because a listed weight usually includes the cord and sometimes the attachments. Compare dryer-only figures with each other, and listed figures with each other.

Does a heavier hair dryer dry faster?

No. In our range the heaviest dryers are the 1875-watt AC models at up to 2.49 lb, and the fastest by buyer accounts are the high-speed models at under 1 lb. Weight comes from the motor type, not from drying power.

Weights from our product pages. Plasma, F11, F4, K13, Foldable Diffuser: dryer only, without the cord. The others: weight as listed.

What weight does change is how long you can dry without resting your arm. If you have thick hair that takes ten minutes, a two-pound dryer held above your head is real work. Buyers say so in almost the same words about every AC model in our range: powerful, and heavy.

If you have shoulder or wrist trouble, treat weight as the first filter. The Plasma has the lightest body in the range at 0.74 lb. The F11 is 0.81 lb and was praised by a buyer in their mid-seventies for exactly this reason. A third route is the blow dryer brush, which lets one hand do the work of two.

I have RA so being able to hold my arms up, especially while holding a hair dryer and a brush to dry my hair was becoming nearly impossible.

Dawn Montgomery, 5 out of 5, November 19, 2025, about CONFU 4-in-1 Blow Dryer Brush

Heat settings, speed settings and the cool button

Heat and speed are separate controls on every CONFU dryer, and that matters more than how many positions each has. Separate controls let you run high air with low heat, which is the gentlest way to dry, or low air with warm heat, which is what a diffuser wants.

Dermatologists are consistent about the heat side. The American Academy of Dermatology lists blow-drying among the habits that can damage hair and gives this advice:

Use the lowest heat setting.

American Academy of Dermatology, How to stop damaging your hair, read 7 October 2026

Its page on healthy hair says the same thing in a longer sentence:

Use low or medium heat settings and a product to protect your hair from the heat.

American Academy of Dermatology, Healthy hair care tips from dermatologists, read 7 October 2026

So the practical question is whether a dryer lets you stay on low or medium heat and still finish in reasonable time. That takes airflow. A study in the Annals of Dermatology dried hair tresses at different distances and temperatures and looked at the damage under a microscope. Its summary is short:

Hair surfaces tended to become more damaged as the temperature increased.

Annals of Dermatology (Lee and others, 2011), Hair Shaft Damage from Heat and Drying Time of Hair Dryer, read 7 October 2026

The same study found something less expected. Hair left to dry on its own showed damage to the cell membrane complex, the layer that holds the cuticle cells together, which the authors link to hair staying wet for a long time. Their conclusion was that a dryer held 15 cm away and kept moving did less harm than drying naturally.

It was one laboratory study on hair samples, so treat it as a pointer, not a rule. The pointer is useful all the same: distance, movement and moderate heat count for more than the dryer's top temperature.

How many settings are enough

Three heat levels cover almost everyone: cool, warm and hot. Two speeds are enough for most hair. A stepless dial or slider earns its place if you diffuse curls or have fine hair around the face, because you can drop the airflow below what a two-speed switch calls low. Ionic 1600 and Ionic 1875 have one.

  • 2models with stepless speed
  • 5models with a cool shot button
  • 4models that alternate hot and cool air

The cool button, or cool setting, is for the end. Hair holds the shape it cools in, so a few seconds of cool air on a section you have just dried on a brush helps it stay. Our salon models have a cool shot button you hold down. The compact and high-speed models have a cool setting on the heat switch, and four of them can alternate hot and cool air on their own: K13, F11, Plasma and F4.

Which attachments come with which dryer

Attachments change what a dryer can do more than any setting. A concentrator narrows the stream for smooth styles. A diffuser spreads it for curls. A comb nozzle puts teeth in the airflow to stretch thick or coily hair. Here is what comes in each box.

Two details are easy to miss. First, the Foldable 1875W comes with a concentrator only, so it is not the dryer for curls. Second, diffusers are not all alike. The magnetic diffuser on the F11 is shallow with short fingers, and one buyer with curly hair found it too small to control the air. The diffuser on the 1875W Ionic is deep and wide. If curls are the main reason you are buying, read the diffuser guide before you pick.

Our picks by hair type

With the hardware laid out, the choice gets short. These are the models we would hand to each kind of buyer, with the reason in one line.

Fine or thin hair

Fine hair dries quickly and marks easily with heat, so you want low settings that are really low. The 1600W Ionic has a dial that takes the airflow down to a breeze, from $29.44. The Plasma is lighter still, and a buyer with thin, fine hair wrote that it seemed to hold more moisture with this dryer. On a tight budget, the Foldable 1875W pairs low heat with low air on separate switches.

This blow dryer doesn't blast air like other dryers but it feels like my hair retains more moisture.

Kimber, 5 out of 5, June 12, 2026, about CONFU Plasma Ionic Hair Dryer

Long, thick or coily hair

Here you need power that lasts the session and a nozzle that helps. The Pro Salon has an 1875-watt AC motor, an 8-foot cord and a comb nozzle, from $30.68. For blowouts on a round brush, the AC Motor 1875 gives you two concentrator widths. Expect weight. If the weight rules these out, a high-speed dryer is the alternative, with the caveat that its heat tops out lower.

Curly hair

The 1875W Ionic is our first pick: a deep diffuser and a slider that lets a strong dryer run gently, from $30.39. For travel, the Foldable Diffuser is the folding dryer that brings a diffuser along. Keep long hair away from the back of any dryer when you diffuse upside down: the intake is where air goes in, and loose hair can follow it.

Short hair, and everyday drying

Short hair is dry in two or three minutes, so comfort wins. The F11 is quiet, at as low as 51 dB, and weighs 0.81 lb. The K13 costs less, from $39.99, and shows its settings on a screen. Either one will feel like a different kind of tool if you are coming from a full-size dryer.

Travel

Hair dryers are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags on U.S. flights. The Transportation Security Administration says so in four words:

Carry On Bags: Yes

Transportation Security Administration, What Can I Bring? Hair Dryers, read 7 October 2026

Two of our dryers fold at the handle: Foldable 1875 and Foldable Diffuser. The F4 is the high-speed model that folds, with an 11.5-foot cord. One limit applies to all of them: every CONFU dryer is built for 125 volts. They are for trips inside North America. A 230-volt supply would damage them, plug adapter or not.

What buyers complain about, and what to do with that

Every dryer in the range has critical reviews, and they cluster around four things. Knowing them in advance is the cheapest way to avoid a return.

  • 15,238buyer ratings across the range
  • 4.1–4.6average rating, lowest to highest model
  • 12 monthswarranty on most models
  • Weight. The most common complaint on the 1875-watt AC models. If a review of a dryer you like says heavy, believe it.
  • Not hot enough. The most common complaint on the high-speed models, from buyers who like hot air. The K13 lists a top air temperature of 95 °C.
  • Buttons under the hand. On the Salon Ionic and the F4, the switches sit where you grip. Some buyers bump them, and most adjust their hold within a week.
  • Early failures. A small share of one-star reviews, across several models, describe a dryer that stopped within months. Most CONFU dryers carry a 12-month warranty with replacement, and the K13 lists two years.

One complaint deserves a longer answer, because it sounds like a fault and usually is not. A buyer of the 1875W Ionic wrote:

it always shuts off after 6 or 7 minutes

Sean Moore, 1 out of 5, August 6, 2026, about CONFU 1875W Ionic Hair Dryer

A dryer that switches itself off mid-session has tripped its overheat protection. The thermostat cuts the power when the air inside gets too hot, which happens when air cannot flow freely, and the usual cause is lint on the rear filter. Unplug the dryer, let it cool for ten minutes, clean the filter and try again. If it still cuts out with a clean filter, that unit is faulty and should be replaced under warranty.

The plug, the filter and the bathroom

Hair dryers are among the few appliances that federal rules single out by name. Under the Consumer Product Safety Commission's regulations, a hand-held dryer without built-in protection against immersion in water is treated as a substantial product hazard. The rule's wording covers:

Hand-supported hair dryers that do not provide integral immersion protection in compliance with the requirements of section 5 of UL 859, or section 6 of UL 1727

Code of Federal Regulations, 16 CFR Part 1120, Substantial Product Hazard List, read 7 October 2026

In practice that protection is the large block on the plug, called an ALCI on most of our product pages. It watches for current leaking where it should not, as it would if the dryer fell into water, and cuts the power in a fraction of a second. Ten of our twelve models list it. The block has two buttons: press test and the dryer should go dead, press reset and it works again. Do that once when the dryer is new.

The plug is a backup, not permission. Use the dryer in a dry spot, keep it away from a filled sink or tub, and unplug it when you are done. Clean the rear filter every few weeks: a clogged filter makes the dryer run hot, shortens its life and is behind most mid-session shutdowns.

What more money buys

The range spans $19.37 to $72.19, and the steps between are easy to read once you know the motors.

PriceModelsWhat you get
Under $25Foldable 1875A folding dryer with a concentrator and three heat settings
$25 to $35Ionic 1600, Pro Salon, AC Motor 1875, Ionic 1875, Salon Ionic, Plasma and Foldable DiffuserThe core of the range: compact dryers with diffusers, and all four 1875W AC salon models
$35 to $50K13 and F11High-speed motors, under a pound, magnetic attachments
Over $50F4A high-speed motor in a body that folds, with the longest cord

Most buyers land in the middle band. Paying more than that buys a different motor, not a stronger version of the same one. Spend up if weight and noise bother you daily. Stay in the middle if you dry thick hair twice a week and want heat.

A five-step way to decide

  1. Name your hair. Short or long, fine or thick, straight or curly. Thick and long points to an AC motor. Short or fine points to compact or high-speed.

  2. Decide how much weight you will hold. Under a pound means a high-speed model or the Plasma. Up to two and a half pounds opens the salon dryers.

  3. Check the box for your nozzle. Curls need a diffuser, and a deep one. Blowouts need a concentrator. Thick, coily hair is easier with a comb nozzle.

  4. Pick your controls. A dial or slider if you want low airflow. A cool shot button if you set styles on a brush. A screen if you like to see the setting.

  5. Read the critical reviews of your pick. If the complaint is about something you do not care about, you have found your dryer.

If you are still between two models, the comparison of all 12 models lists every setting in one place.
